A Visit to the Oracle

…a series of “interactive artworks”, created to tap into the regenerative power of art. Fun and zany, and drawing on themes of illusion, ritual, mystery and magic…

In December 2023 Alice invited the public to go on an enchanted journey to visit the Oracle.  Over 7,000 people came to experience the interactive artworks over ten days, confirming Alice’s belief in our need for tactile experiences, ritual, magic, mystery, catharsis and connection.  Visitors could immerse themselves in the Oracle film before exploring their shadow side with The Book of Self Loathing, writing their darkest thoughts inside the Motherhouse and feeding these to the three Oracles.  They could sit in a monstrous cat’s jaws, read from Spell with Stars and meditate on the passage of time, light a candle in the spellbinding Golden Cobweb Room and tap into their unconscious with a card reading from the Grandmother’s Oracle.

The works aimed to offer the comfort, reassurance and regeneration our forebears sought through art and stories when the future seemed alarming.  Alice’s central message: to be understanding to ourselves and each other, because what we have in common is far greater than what divides us.

“I was thinking about pilgrimages and how fun it would be to visit an Oracle. I made the first Oracle for people to write down the worst voices in their heads and feed them to her - when I wrote down my own (which say things I wouldn’t say to my worst enemy) they seemed quite funny and lost their power. Once the Oracle was sitting in the studio I began to want to bring her to life, which is how the film began…”  Alice
